GUAVIARE: DESTINATION KNOWN FOR ITS AMAZING AND COLOURFUL PICTOGRAMS

Not long ago, Guaviare was not very well known as a tourist destination. Yet, travelling through this region is an incredible adventure: you will enjoy the myriad in fauna, and the vivid history of our country. These elements make it an unmissable and fascinating destination. Adjectives to describe it fall short. 

You can reach this region by air or land. It’s only 400 km by car from Bogotá. The mountainous road leads to the entrance of the Llanos Orientales via Villavicencio. From there, and heading towards the south-east, most of the route goes around the foothill until you reach Granada. From then on, you will travel through the beautiful and long-winded plains, bordering the river Arari, which before San José, merges with El Guayabero to form the legendary Río Guaviare. One of the largest rivers in Colombia known for its numerous meanders. 

The capital, San José del Guaviare is located on one of the river banks. It is the touristic operations’ hub. All sites of interest are nearby and in relation to La Serranía de la Lindosa (the name says it all.)  When surrounding it you will encounter water, rocks, fauna, pictograms and jaw dropping landscapes that will leave a mark in you. 

In Guaviare, people’s  resilience can only be compared to their kindness, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit. They are always willing to share their experiences through wonderful and compelling storytelling, accompanied by autochthonous food.  

The archeology in Guaviare, with its incredible manifestations over twenty thousand years old, is part of the cultural tradition of Chiribiquete.  A place  that contains thousands of millenary figures that astonish those who visit.
